Hope you are all doing well while we are being quarantined at home. I imagine many of you are using your computer and digital devices more than usual. There is a scientific phenomenon which is called “Computer Vision Syndrome” (or “Digital Eye Strain”) where you can have the following symptoms:
There are three simple things you may try that would certainly help with any of these symptoms
1. The “20-20-20 Rule” This rule says for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, you should then look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This simple exercise helps relax your focusing system.
2. Increasing the working distance and positioning the device/computer correctly: Making sure your digital device/computer is about an arm length’s away from you (note that this is true for cell phone use as well) and slightly below eye level. This should help with the neck/shoulder pain you might be experiencing while using the computer.
3. Lighting: Making sure the lighting should come from behind you and should be about the same brightness as the screen. Be sure that there is no reflection on the screen as that could increase your eye strain.
